Yasmine Ziadat | August 10 2016

Female athletes have been participating in the Olympics since the 1900s, but this year’s Rio 2016 Olympics is a cause for celebration with a record high of 45% female athletes competing. With this record high also comes the largest number of Arab female athletes participating in the history of the Olympics. If we combine all of the competing Arab countries, the Independent Olympic Team and the Refugee Olympic Team, that number comes to 123 women! With Egypt entering the most Arab female athletes, four Saudi women competing, and the inspirational Syrian Refugee Yusra Mardini winning hearts with her brave story, there are so many incredible Arab women to admire and support.
